According to the report, Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque "has urged Fernando Torres to delay his return from injury with Liverpool". "Del Bosque insists his country's chances would improve"...in the coming World Cup..."by Torres being kept out of action". This, according to Del Bosque is "to keep him in top condition for this summer's finals in South Africa".

Undoubtedly such comments would inevitably anger Rafa Benitez who has only seen Torres play in just 21 games this season.

Oddly enough though, "Torres' recent battle with his groin problem was sustained while he was on international duty with Spain. This has reignited the "club versus country row" that provides the bacdrop to national team fixtures."

The Spanish coach also told the News of the World that "The fewer games that Fernando plays for his club, the better it will be for us". He added, "We want him not to play too many games, to recover completely for the World Cup and have had some rest in between. We'd like him fresh for the tournament. This can only be good news for Spain. We hope Liverpool's loss will be our gain. Fernando Torres represents a crucial part of our squad".

I for one would like to remind the Spanish coach that Fernando Torres represents a crucial part of any squad that he plays on and at this present moment he plays for Lverpool Fortball Club who, by the way, is paying his wages and also for his treatment!

Liverpool is a club that transcends nationalities and therefore plays for fans from many nations. It is rather selfish of the Spanish coach to wish for such a thing since the groin injury originated from the time when Torres played for Spain. I would like to wish Spain all the best of luck in the coming World Cup but I would also dearly wish for Torres' speedy return in the Premier League and in the Europa Club Championship!
