Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has refused to rule out leaving the club as Manchester United look for a replacement for Edwin van der Sar in the summer.

Reina has risked the anger of the Kop by doing little to quash the rumours that he may be interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Van der Sar has announced that he will retire at the end of the season, and The Sun reports the Spain international goalkeeper could move to Old Trafford in a £20 million transfer, and while Reina reiterated he is contracted to the Anfield club, he also admitted he wants to challenge for top honours again.

"Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking," Reina told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"I can't do anything. I can't say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.

"Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that.

"We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title.

"But unfortunately it hasn't been the case in the last couple of years."

Reina has been a central figure for Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish will be eager to retain the services of the Spaniard, who is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to trigger a £20m clause in the goalkeeper's contract that would see Liverpool unable to refuse the offer and allow Reina to speak to United.

Liverpool’s fortunes on the pitch have improved since Dalglish took over in January and a top-four finish is looking more possible with every point gained. But Reina conceded that he wants to be challenging at the highest level.

He added: "I won't lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles."

Reina on his way out? not to manchester please!!

suehaime If Pepe goes to the Manures then he is going to replace Torres as the most hated player! Would he chance that? YNWA!

sjmallard So, If Reina doesn't want to be at Liverpool, let him go because his heart wouldn't be set at the club. But going to Man United isn't going to go down well with us fans but we can always find an ideal replacement with the money we get!

suehaime As dibby puts it it's more likely that the press are just looking for new fuel to pour onto the fire now that the Torres saga is over and done with! For the time being let us not get caught in this new speculation and concentrate on winning one game at a time! YNWA!

MerseyParadise no player is forced to stay however if one would ever want to join united then that would prove how little he learnt from being a regular at Anfield and it would definitely state how poor the man is. I don't call torres a traitor but he would have been if he had gone to manchester. so Pepe beware your actions, there are things that money and trophies will never buy

dibby

dibby The size of the door hasnt changed and it opens and closes the same way. If ANY player doesnt want to be at LFC please pull the door firmly behind you when you leave. With Torres gone, the press have to have a dig at us another way, we wouldnt be Liverpool without all this rumour mongering
