Lucas (#2450) on 11-08-2010 at 17:36:29

We signed Lucas on 13th May 2007; I have since found myself one of a small band of admirers, each time I go to a match and chat to the supporters around me, he is slatted not rated or appreciated.

On 26 July 2007, he was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player and given international clearance to compete in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy. Manager Rafa Benitez was pleased with his signing, saying: "I am looking forward to seeing him score goals for Liverpool in the future. And i believe he has the mentality and the character you need to do well in England. The next day, Lucas made his debut against Portsmouth, coming on in the second half.

I stand by my original assessment of the player; he passes the ball better than Mascherano, his tackling is not that far away from Mascherano and I think he has scored more goals than Mascherano. I am not saying he is as good as Mascherano, but I still believe he is a lot better player than he is given credit for. If or when Mascherano leaves the sooner the better (he wants to go, so go I don?t want any players at our club that do not want to be there. The money will strengthen the team.

It is clear that he will still be a Liverpool player this season, and as such he deservers the support of the faithful. He must be wondering what he must do to get the supporters behind him. Final point, Albert Reira got better support than Lucas gets, and Reira did not work anywhere near as hard as Lucas does, week in week out, who nows if he gets the support, he may play even better.

True Lucas works hard during games. Sometimes in his zest to do well he makes mistakes like all players do but it is unfortunate for him that some of his mistakes were telling mistakes which caused us precious points! However I'm always willing to give players who are committed to the club a second chance.
I agree that for all that he is, Lucas has definitely improved. Physically he has built himself up to be a strong and competitive player! The greatest asset that he has is that he is still quite young and as all young players they can only improve! Perhaps with RH Lucas can imrove even further! Let's hope that he does! YNWA!

I think we will see a differnce in him this coming season now Hodgson is in charge as, "I think you will see a new Ryan Babel, Roy will put his arm around them and give them the confidence they need, which I think was lacking under Rafa.

I think to start with you are right, the fans seemed to hate him. I looked a little differently. Put any player between Stevie and Xabi and they were sure to look sub-standard, there are only a few in the world could stand there and look good ! But always I have thought that he is a young player and I think even fans who did not like him, had to admit he tried his best and worked hard. A good start. However Xabi leaving seemed to make a difference to his game and last season some games for me he was man of the match easily. I think it is very easy for armchair supporters to have negative views. The TV follows the ball and they aren't lucky enough to see his clever movements off the ball and how he has started 'reading' the game and knowing instinctively where he needs to be. Obviously learning from Xabi, Stevie and Javier he has had some of the best teachers in the world. I think this season will bring him even more success. And certainly if Javier leaves, he may find a way to shine even brighter.
Him having the captains armband, even for a friendly, must have told him that finally he is accepted here. It must have been a proud moment for him.
I hope he carries on the hard work he put in last season, improves his game still further, and tries his best, we can ask no more.
And surely hearing his name chanted by the kop, must encourage him.

I always like players on our team who show a lot of passion and love for the club. Undeniably, Lucas have shown just that. Therefore I would like to all Lucas detractors to try and give him a fair chance! As I've said earlier somewhere, he has improved and he will continue to improve. This season might be his best yet! YNWA!

Simple training tactic Roy should adopt. Tell lucas to look at what colour shirt he is wearing and pass it to someone else wearing the same colour... not rocket science is it
