Liverpool defender Glen Johnson is set to be interviewed by police after a man claimed he was attacked outside a London club.

Rashed Al Muhtadi, a 20-year-old student, alleges he was punched several times and his friend was spat on.

Reports claim that England right-back Johnson was with friends waiting for a taxi outside Movida when the incident took place at 4am.

Question time: Johnson (left) may have to answer some questions. Londoner Rashed made an official complaint to officers at Paddington Green station and claimed he suffered a split lip and bruising to his arm and chest. He told The Sun: 'I was left with significant injuries.'

Detectives at Charing Cross are trying to find CCTV of the incident and will approach 25-year-old Johnson if they find evidence linking him to it.  Johnson played in the Reds' 2-0 defeat at his former club Portsmouth on Saturday before heading to the capital and the nightclub, a favourite among celebrities, in the west end.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'On the afternoon of Sunday, 20 December, a 20-year-old man attended a central London police station. He alleges that at around 4am the same day he was assaulted by a 25-year-old man in Argyll Street, W1.

"The man did not sustain serious injuries. Officers are investigating.'
In January 2007 Johnson was fined £80 after being caught with friend and fellow footballer Ben May allegedly trying to steal a toilet seat and other bathroom fittings from a B&Q in Dartford, Kent.
