Liverpool 3 Newcastle 1
TWO-GOAL Craig Bellamy inspired a stunning Liverpool comeback win ? before Steven Gerrard gave Kop fans the perfect New Year's gift.
Bellamy struck twice after Daniel Agger's own goal had given Newcastle the lead.
He levelled with a 29th-minuter fizzer through before hitting a brilliant free-kick after the break.
And on 78 minutes returning skipper Gerro hit his first goal since October to fire the Reds up to fifth.
Andy Carroll, who quit St James' Park in a £35million move 11 months ago, was lining up against his old pals.
But it was Jose Enrique ? another man to swap Tyneside for Anfield ? who carved out the game's first chance.
The Liverpool full-back drilled in a dangerous 15th-minute cross that just eluded Stewart Downing.
Charlie Adam then fizzed a 35-yarder just over the bar ? after he was set up by the REF, Lee Probert.
Instead, it was the Magpies who broked the deadlock on 25 minutes.
Ryan Taylor played on despite Haris Vuckic walking off with a facial injury and swung in a cross from the left.
The ball pinged off Yohan Cabaye, then Demba Ba and finally off Agger and into the net.
But the lead only last FOUR minutes as Bellamy hit back.
Cheik Tiote fluffed a clearance and the Wales striker crashed home from 16 yards through a crowded box.
The leveller kicked Liverpool into life and Downing and Martin Skrtel both thereatend to pinch a second before the break.
The Kop erupted when Gerrard was thrown into the mix on the hour, with Charlie Adam making way.
And they were back on their feet seven minutes later when Bellamy put Liverpool ahead.
The crafty striker was lining up a free-kick and spied Danny Simpson back-tracking onto his line.
Bellamy then fired in the set-piece, which flew in after the Toon defender collided with Tim Krul.
A magnificent goal-line clearence from Skrtel stopped Demba Ba levelling three minutes later.
And it was job done for the hosts when Gerrard wormed his way into space before slipping past Krul.
The Reds are now level on points with Chelsea, who have a game in hand.
