BackThe midfielder made his return from six months on the sidelines on Wednesday night, and the Reds' manager is hoping that he will not be rushed back into the national set-up
The midfielder made his return from six months out with injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 win away at Brighton in the League Cup but Dalglish will not bring him back slowly into the fold, and wants the Three Lions manager to take a similar approach ahead of next month's final Euro 2012 qualifier away to Montenegro.
Dalglish told The Daily Mail: “It’s been a disappointing time for Steven with injuries and we don’t want to ruin this opportunity after he has done so well.
“I don’t pick England’s team, but I would hope they will be as intelligent as we have been.
“We will continue to be as diligent as we have been. We just need to take it as it comes. Everyone is delighted for him that he’s back playing and making good progress.”
Gerrard’s last England appearance came in the 2-1 defeat against France at Wembley last November, where the midfielder injured his hamstring and, prior to Wednesday's game, he had not played for Liverpool since March.
It is expected that Dalglish will not hand him a start at Anfield on Saturday when Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from successive Premier League defeats as Wolves make the trip to Merseyside.
