Anfield icons Phil Thompson, Roy Evans and Alan Kennedy got into the festive spirit by helping launch this year's Santa Dash which takes place in Liverpool city centre on Sunday, December 4.

Thousands of Santas will take to the streets of Liverpool to take part in the world Santa Dash challenge in an attempt to keep the title in Liverpool, supporting children across the region, with charity partners Radio City's Cash for Kids and Liverpool Unites.

Last year, the Liverpool event drew an entry list of 7,312 people to pip Las Vegas to the World Santa Dash Challenge, and they are hoping to get an even bigger response on December 4.

The launch for this year's event took place at the shop Rapid where the Liverpool legends paid a visit to and helped a festive window display come to life. They were joined by Simon Ross from Radio City, race Director Alan Rothwell and mascots Robbie Ribbon and Courage Cat.

Liverpool Unites have pledged to raise funds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital and Radio City's Cash for Kids which helps thousands of children and young people suffering from poverty, sickness and physical and mental disabilities in the local area.

Former Reds skipper Thompson said: "The Santa Dash is a fantastic event for the city that gets bigger and better each year.

"It's great that the money raised stays in Merseyside and the North West Region. Long may it continue."

Race Director Rothwell added: "Las Vegas is hungry to take the title back and have a huge backing this year.

"I urge everyone to back the dash and keep the title in our city. Last year 7,312 people took part to secure the world title but we'd like this year to be the biggest yet."
