The Daily Mail reported that Reds manager Rafael Benitez is keeping a close eye on his former club for any discontent involving Higuain's contract talks.

Higuain has become one the key players in the new-look Real side and is the top scorer for the Whites this season ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Raul and Karim Benzema.

But Real's disappointing Champions League exit meant Real president Florentino Perez could once again splash the cash in the summer for big name players.

Higuain is not considered a big name player and his place in the Real first-team is not guaranteed despite his goal-scoring form.

Previously, Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with the Argentine but now Liverpool have joined in the chase.

Benitez is keen to strengthen his attacking options further and sees Higuian as the perfect partner for Fernando Torres. The Argentine will also signal Liverpool's statement of intent and prevent star players from leaving Anfield.

The price could obviously prove to be a stumbling block for the Anfield outfit, and the Reds will have to let a handful of players go before making their intentions known in the summer transfer window.

philltubman

philltubman we dont have the spending power to higuain, cause of the alonso saga real would demand at least 25million for him, but with the sales of babel, benayoun, and other deadwood maybe there is a deal to be made. lets all face facts tores injury hit season isnt going to get beter and now with barca rumoured to be intrested in both mascherano, and torres if we can get 30-35 for mascherano then i would seriously look at taking it and if we can get an offer of 50-60 million depending on torres world cup then why not take it, i know a lot of people will think im mad but i would spend and get mata, joe cole, van dr vaart and wiv the serb we have supposed to have signed i would go for higuian, as for live forever comment that higuain would be good cover for torres he wont come to us to warm the bench defo a starting player.

suehaime

suehaime Yeah, he's a good partner for Torres, I just saw him play yesterday in La Liga. I also agree with John, money might be a problem!
