Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher admits resolving the ownership issues at the club is a "massive decision" which will have implications for decades to come.

A protest march against the ongoing ownership of Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett will be staged by thousands of fans prior to Sunday's home match against Blackpool. The Americans' three-and-a-half-year reign at Anfield looks to be drawing to a close with a mid-October deadline looming for repayment or refinancing of the loan they used to purchase the club.

There is the real possibility Royal Bank of Scotland could assume control of the club in the short term while a buyer is found and Carragher said: "I don't try to get involved in that type of stuff but the ownership is not something that can be sorted out quickly."

He added: "It is a massive decision for the club but it is not about the players now, we are talking about 20 to 30 years down the line.

"It is important the club get it right."

More pressing for Carragher and his Liverpool team-mates, however, is Sunday's visit of Blackpool.

The Seasiders have surprised many this season and the defender knows they cannot afford to be complacent against the Barclays Premier League newcomers.

"Blackpool have been the story of the season. They will be desperate to make a statement at Anfield and it's up to us to match their enthusiasm," he said.

"We've got to make sure we get the three points and start moving up the league. We've got to match them for spirit."
