DANIEL AGGER has admitted losing Fernando Torres rocked Liverpool – but predicted a bright Red future for goalscoring debutant Luis Suarez.

The defender kept a third clean sheet in a row during the Reds 2-0 win against Stoke at Anfield last night.

But it was the player at the other end of the pitch who had everyone talking after Uruguyan Suarez sealed the victory after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Agger told the ECHO: “We need to have a few more games, but I think its important for him and the team to get the goal so quick.

“For strikers it’s always important to get a goal, and in the first game it’s definitely important.”

Suarez, bought for £22.8m this week, was introduced as a substitute after Raul Meireles had fired Liverpool into a deserved second half lead.

And it took just 16 minutes for the former Ajax man to make his mark, dancing round Potters’ goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to slot home.

Defender Andy Wilkinson might have helped the ball over the line, but there was no denying Suarez his strike.

Agger admitted that the departure of £50m Fernando Torres had sent shockwaves through Anfield on transfer deadline day.

But he predicted new recruits Suarez and Andy Carroll, a club record signing at £35m, will herald the dawn of a new striking era at Liverpool.
